Custom framing means CUSTOM FRAMING!

When we say custom framing, we don't mean you just choose from a board of frame samples and viola, we mean you literally get to tell us what is in your head and we will make it for you.

This is one of two frames we made for a customer who actually bought in their own timber as it was from his old house - we were more than happy to help out.

Frames usually have mitred corners, but since the customer wanted more a of "Shack" vibe for the artwork, we decided on butt joining the timber and also keeping the majority of the grey in the timber. This gave a nice, natural but weathered look to the overall product. The grey also complimented the blues in the artwork quite well too.

Viva la movie poster

We had a nice find from one of our friends not long ago and finally got around to putting them in frames. I also did a bit of research into the Cuban movie poster art to see exactly what it was about and this is what I found out.

Basically after the Cuban Revolution, movies became super cheap to go to again, so elaborate beautiful movie posters enticing people to attend the movies weren't needed as the theatres were full all the time. So, the government assembled a team of artists to create a new art style as fresh as the revolution and aesthetically opposite to the old ways, thus the Cuban movie poster art movement began….

Nothing wrong with small frames!

Don't think that you have to have a BIG poster or print to fill up a large space on your wall. Small framed prints are just as cool and give you SOOOOOOO many more options. Below are a bunch of our two tone frames, the sizes are A4, 8 x 10, 7 x 5 & 6 x 4.

The best way to go about fitting them all together is envisioning a brickwork pattern. All frames have 90 degree edges so they will always fit together!

Try maybe sketching your idea out on paper before make a million holes in the wall and ALSO measure your wall space and then come in a bit so the frames aren't hanging too close to the corners of the room.

Some people like to have one large piece in the middle and build the frames out from the centre, others try to create a kind of symmetrical shape with their frames. Some just like a free for all random collection of frames! And there is nothing wrong with that indeed. There are heaps of examples on the net, so get googling!

AND the best things is, you can always change around the frames when you get bored of them, just to keep it fresh.

Some tips when having a photo printed….

I thought I would give you guys my view on the best things to do when having a photo / image printed for framing.

Firstly, all picture frames have a rebate which is at the back of the frame, where the glass, image and backing board sits in. It's about 1cm deep which means, it covers approx 1cm of each side of the picture from it's edge.

It's good to keep this in mind if you are only printing a portion of a photo. Make sure you have left enough room for the frame coverage and don't worry about leaving too much room, we can always trim the photo down from the edge.

It's also a good idea to ask if you can have the picture printed with a 5cm white border. This will save you having to spend money of getting a matt board (which are super expensive!) cut.

A wide border creates some nice depth to the overall picture.

We have a whole bunch of cushions here at Mulbury. It's just a bit tough to look at them when you haven't had enough sleep! Never the less, they look pretty nice and are definitely something that will dress up a boring old couch or bed. Made from recycled materials too!
